Making the mark legible at 16 pixels

The mark is an inverted triangle drawn as a continuous outlined ribbon with its top corners cut and its centre hollow. Wide at the top, converging to a point: a large world narrowing to the one small problem being solved. That reading is the whole meaning, so it has to survive every size we ship it at.

Two things fight it. At 16 pixels the hollow centre closes up and the ribbon reads as a solid triangle. And in app stores the icon gets rounded, squircled and circle-masked, each of which crops a different amount — the bottom point is the first casualty.

So the small sizes are not scaled, they are drawn: the ribbon thins less than proportionally and the hollow is held open at the cost of a slightly heavier outline. Nobody will notice, which is the point. And the masked icons carry a safe margin tested against all three shapes rather than the generous one, because a point that clips looks like a mistake rather than a crop.

One thing we will not do to solve it: rotate it. Upright only. Rotated, the funnel stops reading as a funnel and the point starts reading as an arrow.
